Cameron, our second son, was born in November
2000.  Despite the use of 3 ultrasounds during
pregnancy, his HLHS heart was not discovered
until the day after his birth.  He was born by way of
vaginal birth and spent the night with us feeding
off and on, but mostly sleeping.  He was a
beautiful child and appeared healthy.

Our journey with HLHS started the next day when,
the Discharge Nurse heard a murmur, and
decided to send him to the nursery for more tests
"just to rule anything out".

After several hours of waiting, we had to demand
to see our son.  When they finally let us into the
nursery to see him, we were shocked to find him
hooked to a breathing machine, on I.V.
medication, and having an ECHO performed.  We
were informed that an emergency transport team
was on their way from UCSF to come pick him up,
and that they would let us know what was going on
once he was there and they had a chance to do
further testing.

Those days seems so long ago... and yet, just like
yesterday!

Today, he is 7 years old, attending school and in
the First grade.  He has been "cardiac stable" for
many years now, having completed four open
heart surgeries as part of the 'Norwood
Procedure".  He is dynamically intelligent and
loved by those who know him.

To say we are thankful for every day we are given
with him would be an understatement.  We always
have in the back of our minds the "what-ifs" and
the "whens", but our daily life is really quite
pleasantly predictable, which is a lovely change
from the way things were years ago when we
began this journey!

There is always Hope,
